The novel Coronavirus or “COVID-19” has been a part of major global concern. I have never imagined in my wildest dream that this virus from “Wuhan” of Southern China will slowly grip the whole world. The virus which was detected in December 2019, is now affecting more than 193 countries and has raised concerns of widespread panic and increasing anxiety subject to the (real or perceived) threat of the virus.
On the one hand, these concerns arise indications for safety and the prevention of future transmission while, on the other hand, media coverage has highlighted COVID-19 as a unique threat, one of many, which has added to panic, stress, and the potential paranoia. It has caused disruptions on both individuals and societies at many levels. This pandemic infectious outbreaks are likely to cause xenophobia stigma affecting societies as a whole. People are getting overly concerned leading them to collect medical supplies and daily groceries on an exponential level. This is often followed by anxiety-related behaviors, sleep disturbances, and overall lower perceived state of health. Individuals with mental illness may be particularly vulnerable to the effects of widespread panic and threats. Especially, when we all people globally are being put in quarantine which is isolating people from normal life and this social disruption has triggered vulnerabilities particular to those who are vulnerable already.
Henceforth, it is needed to develop emotional strengths at the moment to protect us from any kind of mental trauma. It is suggested to follow a trusted source of information to insulate yourself from rumors and to see the clear picture and see how things are changing.
On the fact of novel corona viruses
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. There’s currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Illness due to COVID-19 infection is generally mild, especially for children and young adults. However, it can cause serious illness: about 1 in every 5 people who catch it need hospital care. It is therefore quite normal for people to worry about how the COVID-19 outbreak will affect them and their loved ones.
We can channel our concerns into actions to protect ourselves, our loved ones and our communities. First and foremost among these actions is regular and thorough hand-washing and good respiratory hygiene. Secondly, keep informed and follow the advice of the local health authorities including any restrictions put in place on travel, movement and gatherings.
The most common symptoms of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.
According to WHO you can protect yourself and help Prevent spreading the viruseses.
Do Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub,Cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze,Avoid close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people who are unwell, drink plenty of liquids. And Stay home and self-isolate from others in the household if you feel unwell.
Don’t Touch your eyes, nose, or mouth if your hands are not clean.
Summing up everything, I would like to end it with a note saying, ” Prevention is better than cure”
